Hochschule für Jüdische Studien

The Heidelberg Hochschule für Jüdische Studien was founded in 1979 by the Central Council of Jews in Germany. The library received extensive donations and bequests, especially in the early years of its development. About half of the total holdings date back to before 1945. Initial checks revealed that a considerable part of them have provenance features that give rise to a suspicion of Nazi looted property.
Since the beginning of 2019, part of the library's holdings have been undergoing intensive provenance research as part of a research project funded by the German Lost Art Foundation (Deutsches Zentrum Kulturgutverluste) entitled "Nazi Looted Property in the Albert-Einstein Library of the University of Jewish Studies - The Provenances in the Estate of Rabbi Emil Davidovic".
